Sustainable Woking

We have a strong track record on sustainability, with objectives covering climate change, air quality, waste, water, biodiversity and land quality.

Alongside the Local Plan, we will prepare a Sustainability Appraisal to test policies and proposals against 10 high-level objectives:

• Improve air quality and minimise pollution
• Improve health and wellbeing, and reduce inequalities
• Improve water quality, manage resources sustainably, and reduce flood risk
• Make best use of previously developed land and buildings
• Reduce land contamination and safeguard quality agricultural land
• Conserve and enhance biodiversity
• Reduce causes of climate change, increase energy efficiency, and support renewable energy
• Reduce waste and promote sustainable waste management
• Reduce the need to travel, encourage sustainable transport, and make best use of existing infrastructure
• Maintain high and stable levels of economic activity, supporting centres at all levels
