Shaping the borough's future economy

Woking is one of Surrey’s leading economic centres, known for its strong partnerships, forward-thinking planning and significant investment - from the Victoria Place development to improvements in public spaces. 

Regularly ranked among the UK’s best places to live and work, the borough remains an attractive location for residents, businesses and investors.

To build on this success, the new Local Plan will include policies to support business, jobs and investment, guided by an upcoming Economic Needs Assessment. This will identify how much office, retail and industrial space the borough needs and where it could be delivered. Key issues include the loss of employment land to other uses, the role of smaller local centres, and the future of business land in the Green Belt.

With shopping habits shifting online, we will also explore how leisure, evening and cultural activities can help keep our centres vibrant, alongside strategies to attract investment and make the borough’s economy more resilient.
