Woking has a rich and varied urban environment with many distinct character areas. As a modern town, it continues to grow and evolve, with significant new developments in Woking and nearby villages like Byfleet and West Byfleet.

Much of today’s town grew from the original Victorian settlement around the railway station, which expanded rapidly during the interwar period. Today, Woking is growing both outward and upward, becoming an increasingly attractive place to live and work.

The borough has many distinct neighbourhoods and villages. Densities are highest in and around the town centre, which quickly give way to suburban areas.

Further out, areas like Pyrford and Hook Heath maintain their historic charm, featuring traditional homes alongside more contemporary buildings. There are still key parts of the urban area with potential for further evolution.

The borough has many cultural assets. Building on cultural connections and other local tourism assets offers opportunities for economic growth and can help sustain a variety of shops, cafés and restaurants across the area.
