Infrastructure to support growth

Over the next 15 years, Woking will need to grow to meet the housing, education, and employment needs of a growing population. Sustainable communities rely on easy access to essential services and facilities, from schools, healthcare and social care to open spaces, leisure facilities, transport, utilities and digital connectivity.

Funding for new infrastructure comes from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and legal agreements with developers.

Some infrastructure challenges sit outside the planning system, for example national shortages of healthcare staff or the fact that new schools are delivered by academy trusts rather than the local authority.

As part of the new Local Plan, we are working closely with infrastructure providers to identify and plan for future needs supported by clear evidence.
